Trump vs. the Swamp: American Foreign Policy Differences and the Congressional Impeachment Theater of the Absurd

There is a Nov. 16, 2019 "must read" article at the NYTimes
authored by Ross Douthat titled:

"Trump Against the Professionals"

Douthat begins the article with this statement:

"According to Donald Trump’s Republican defenders, the impeachment spectacle unfolding in Washington, D.C., is all about policy differences rather than presidential misconduct, with career foreign policy bureaucrats cooking up excuses to remove a president whose worldview they disdain."

Regardless of your political persuasion, Douthat presents an interesting analysis of the disturbing realities operating behind "the D.C. iron curtain" (the anti-democratic closed door Congressional-operation we are witnessing).

Hat tip to anonymous, who writes about Douthat's article [text updated]:
"[What’s really going on here is that the foreign policy establishment’s priorities — ever expanding US commitments.— are fundamentally at odds with what the public mood supports.  Not that this was DT’s always self-serving motivation, of course.]"

In our opinion, that latter statement says it all in a nutshell.
