Are you a part of the FACEless masses?
Let's FACE up to the truth.
If so, you may soon have to FACE the music and wear a FACEmask in order not to lose FACE, your FACE.
Martha Neil at the ABA Journal Law News Now reports that Facebook Is Close to Trademarking the Generic Word 'Face' due to a "notice of allowance" by the USPTO.
It is a FACE-off between sense and sensibility in law, which has many FACEts.
There is surely more nonsense that comes out of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO) than any other federal agency. Instead of playing Santa Claus for trademark trolls the USPTO needs to FACE up to its responsibilities and start denying these outlandish trademark demands, by going FACE TO FACE with the realities of the law and modern intellectual property. The days of Boss Tweed are gone.
Everyone has his own FACE and it is Facebook which has stolen the word facebook and face from the world and not the other way around. Speak of being TWO-FACED.
"The face is a central sense organ complex, for those animals that have one, normally on the ventral surface of the head, and can depending on the definition in the human case, include the hair, forehead, eyebrow, eyelashes, eyes, nose, ears, cheeks, mouth, lips, philtrum, teeth, skin, and chin.[1] The face has uses of expression, appearance, and identity amongst others. It also has different senses like olfaction, taste, hearing, and vision.[2]The idea that anyone should be able trademark the generic term face in a social context is ridiculous.
The face is the feature which best distinguishes a person. There are "special" regions of the human brain, such as the fusiform face area (FFA), which when damaged prevent the recognition of the faces of even intimate family members. The pattern of specific organs such as the eyes or parts thereof are used in biometric identification to uniquely identify individuals.
By extension, anything which is the forward or world facing part of a system which has internal structure is considered its "face", like the façade of a building. For example a public relations or press officer might be called the "face" of the organization he or she represents. "face" also refers to reputation or standing in society, particularly Chinese society and is spoken of as a resource which can be won or lost. Because of the association with individuality the anonymous is sometimes called the "faceless"." - from the Wikipedia. [emphasis added]
Let's FACE it, the USPTO apparently is put together by an army of the clueless FACING issues over their heads, viz. faces.
There is some mistaken notion there that the USPTO has jurisdiction to dispense and distribute generic words of the English language to greedy commercial enterprises for their exclusive exploitation.
We are SAVING FACE for mankind by recommending that the USPTO get a FACELIFT.
Would we be FACETIOUS?!
Wearers of The North FACE unite!
