Patent, patent, who's got the patent?

We at LawPundit were among the first to alert the world to patent trolls, years ago, but no one really paid any attention. After all, in those days, what was a blog to most people? They were lucky to know the word internet.

Somehow, given some of the disastrous judging we have reported on at LawPundit in recent days at the U.S. Supreme Court and the ECJ (EU), maybe "the system" deserves the patent trolls.

After all, "the system" created them and tolerates them, abetted by judges living in jurisprudential ivory towers far from the madding crowd.

When the world legal community is incapable of implementing sane standards for intellectual property, then the battle for the monetary right to ideas will continue. You cannot really blame the patent trolls, they are merely working "within the system".

If the system rewards them, it is of course their legal right to exploit that system.

That money and power in society should not be distributed this way is a serious problem of course, but that is another question.

writes that as of March 1, 2011 "[C]ompanies' communication on social networking sites and their own websites will be subject to regulation by the UK advertising industry watchdog, the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA)."
