Learfield Sports Directors' Cup To be Awarded to Stanford University for the 16th Consecutive Year as the Top Overall NCAA Division I Athletic Program by Performance

Stanford competes with schools like Harvard and Yale for academic excellence but there is an area of excellence which sets Stanford apart from any similar "academic" university: it is Stanford's performance in NCAA Division I athletics. As written at the Learfield Sports Directors' Cup:

"Stanford will receive the 2009-10 Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup for overall athletic excellence in the NCAA's Division I on Oct. 23 [2011], the 16th consecutive season the Cardinal have won that honor...." [emphasis added]

That must be one of the most incredible records in sports, since Stanford is competing with all the other NCAA Division I schools for this honor -- every year, and yet, for the last 16 years, Stanford has always won. THAT is excellence.

I should add, as a Stanford Law School alum, that I am of course biased on this matter, but then again, I have nothing to do with the giving of the award.
